Since 1990, giving to churches has dropped by almost half. That means that churches require two members to bring in the same operating capital that one member used to bring. Stated another way, churches must do double the ministry to earn the same revenue. As giving declines, churches will find new ways of generating operating capital for their ministries. However, they don't have to look far.
Churches produce vast amounts of content. They preach and record sermons, generate graphics, write music, write small group literature, and more. All of this content is what is known as intellectual property. It can be copyright protected or trademarked. This protects the property from being used by others in a vast majority of situations. There are ways your church can ethically and legally monetize this content on a tax-free basis.
